Fountain Hills, Arizona
The fountain in Fountain Hills
Fountain Hills is probably most famous for its fountain (of course). The fountain was built in 1970 by Robert P. McCulloch (of McCulloch chainsaw fame). He built the fountain about one year before the reconstruction of London Bridge (another of his projects) was completed at Lake Havasu City. When it was built, the fountain was the world's tallest fountain and it held that position for more than 10 years. At its best, it can shoot water 560' into the air, but it normally only runs on 2 of its 3 pumps and keeps the height of the jet around 300'. Parked on a concrete lily-pad in the center of a man-made lake, the fountain generally sprays water for about 15 minutes every hour.
