Fossil Butte National Monument
Lincoln County is in western Wyoming, with Utah and Idaho to the west.
Named for President Abraham Lincoln, Lincoln County was formally organized in 1911 and contains 4,069 square miles of land and 20 square miles of water.
The county seat is Kemmerer.
Lincoln County is home to Fossil Butte National Monument, Kemmerer is home to the JC Penney "Mother Store." A good part of the county is part of Bridger-Teton National Forest, another section is part of Caribou-Targhee National Forest. The Oregon Trail passes across the southern part of the county, a couple cutoffs (Lander and Sublette) of the original trail pass across the county further to the north.
