Kirby, Wyoming
Kirby is downstream from Thermopolis on the Bighorn River. Kirby most likely started out as a railroad siding on what is now the Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railroad. This was also along the route of the Bridger Trail connecting the Oregon Trail with the gold fields of Montana. The original town was the site of a water tower for the steam locomotives in the old days. This is also mining and cattle and sheep ranching country, but it may be a bit too dry for much farming, this being the southern end of the Big Horn Basin and that basin being considered full-on desert...
